Chosen Ones
(Music, lyrics: Mustaine) You doubt your strength or courage
Human bones blanket
Black shadows fill the sky
Solo - Mustaine Look out!
|
This song is about a group of Crusaders who travel to the Middle East in order to fight the Muslims, who they consider the enemy, the monster. By the time they get there, they are vicious and evil - they are the monster. Here is an alternate explanation by Tor Laneryd: This song is about the Killer Rabbit in the movie "Monthy Python and the Holy Grail". The quote below ism what Tim the Enchanter tells King Arthur just before he leads them to the cave of the Killer Rabbit: "But follow only if you are men of valour. For the entrance to this cave is guarded by a monster, a creature so foul and cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived. Bones of full fifty men lie strewn about its lair... therefore sweet knights if you may doubt your strength or courage come no further, for death awaits you all with nasty pointy teeth." Compare these lines to the lyrics of "Chosen Ones" and you'll notice some striking similarities. |

Looking Down the Cross
(Music, lyrics: Mustaine) Solo - Mustaine Now before they take me
Though too much to live for
Down the walkways
And now to you, this will come:
Putrefaction you have caused
And this was all you got
Is this a nightmare to unhallow thy name?
Set free to sit up on the throne
Looking down the cross, speak no evil
Solo - Mustaine |
This song is about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and His finals thoughts before He died. In the song, Dave suggests that Jesus might have been wishing for vengeance, but only spoke of forgiveness. Hence the line, "I'm looking down the cross. Speak no evil." Or, as the Bible puts it, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34) "This is a song about all the ridiculous ways that people try to reach us about God, what I think Jesus might have sung about while he was dying, and what our logo was about, see no evil, speak no evil, and hear no evil." (Mustaine, 2001) |

Mechanix
(Music, lyrics: Mustaine) Imagine you were at my station
Whoever though you'd be better
We were shifting hard when we took off
I'm giving you my room service
Solo - Mustaine |
"Mustaine's 'The Mechanix,' with muscular, choppy riffs and lyrics that appear to tell a story of a horny gas-station attendant." (Metallica Unbound) "Mechanix" was re-written and recorded with new lyrics by Metallica as "The Four Horsemen" for their first album, Kill 'Em All. The original "Mechanix" can be found on Metallica's rare No Life 'Til Leather demo or Bay Area Trashers bootleg, with James Hetfield singing. |

These Boots
(Music, lyrics: Lee Hazlewood) Solo - Poland You keep saying
These boots are made for walking
Solo - Poland You keep lying
Solo - Poland You keep dressing ways
Are you ready, boots? Solo - Poland And you think I'm kidding, don't ya? |
Nancy Sinatra's Boots This song is a parody of the Nancy Sinatra song, "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'," featured on her album, Boots, released in 1966. When Killing Is My Business... started selling well after Megadeth became more popular, Nancy Sinatra began to demand royalties from the album sales. The band decided to drop the song from the album to avoid a lawsuit or being charged even more than they already were. |
