Megadeth Albums
Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? was the album that really got the attention of both critics and the heavy metal community. This album catapulted Megadeth into the mainstream music scene and earned them worldwide attention. With this album, Megadeth was considered on of the top metal/thrash bands in the world, along with Metallica and Slayer. With precise, tight playing, brutal riffs, intelligent, often political lyrics, and uncompromising aggression, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? is truly a masterpiece of thrash. This time Capitol gave Megadeth $15,000 to improve both the production and the artwork of the new album. "As long as people keep stealing, hurting and mistreating people, there's always going to be something that you can pick up on and say, 'Look, this is wrong.' Granted, we sing about it, but we take a negative approach to what we do sing about. 'Hey the devil is there, but he's a moron. That's why he's buried in dirt'." (Mustaine, 1987) "There was even a time when when we were considered black metal! When people saw 'Black Friday' and they heard 'Bad Omen, ' they thought we were satanic. The worst thing is, like, going to a truck stop in Dummoyne, Iowa, and having someone go [imitates Southern redneck voice], 'You guys in Megadeth? I heard you are satanic.' They expect us to have dead goats and babies in our buses. You couldn't get any further from the truth!" (Mustaine, 1997)
